This guide can be used to debrand your Vodafone K4605 dongle in to generic Huawei E372 or to upgrade Huawei  E372 to the latest firmware.

Software needed:
– Latest Huawei E372 Firmware 11.305.15.00.99.B757
– Huawei Flash Code generator Huawei Unlocker
– (Optional) Huawei Mobile Partner Generic Mobile Partner v21.003.27.00.03 or Branded Mobile Partner V23+USSD

Preupgrade requrements:
1. Make sure that the computer has all the drivers.
(The easiest way to make sure that your computer meets this requirement is to connect the modem to the computer and connect to internet.)
2. Close any type of connection program like Mobile Partner or Vodafone software (Modem must not be connected to the internet, modem light must be blinking, software must not be running)

Upgrading firmware procedure:
1. Download E372 firmware and extract it. Start E372Update_11.305.15.00.99.B757.exe .
The program will start and will require to enter the Flash code.
2. Download Huawei Flash Code generator, extract it, start Huawei Unloker.exe .
Now you must enter your Huawei IMEI code and press unlock. The program will generate your flash and unlock code. (I needed only the flash code)
3. Enter the flash code and continue with the procedure.
4. Wait for upgrading to complete (Step 3 usually takes a lot of time so be patient)
5. When program comes to step 4, you have succesfully installed the newest firmware

For upgrading the software the same preupgrade requrements apply:
– installed drivers (see above)
-modem light must be blinking
-software must not be running

(Optional) Install generic Mobile Partner or Branded V23 Mobile Partner:
1.Download generic Mobile Partner Software
2.Extract it and run the .exe
3. If it asks you for unlock code, generate it with Huawei Unloker.exe
4.Wait for the program to do its thing.
5.Modem should restart and offer you to install the generic Mobile Partner

Adding the 3G connection is pretty much straighfoward.

1.Add a new interfce: Go to Network -> Interfaces -> Add a new interface

Network Interfaces

2. Enter the name of interface and  the protocol of the new interface (UMTS/GPRS/EV-DO)

3. Time to configure your connection. On general setup tab enter your service provider data. (Here is my configuration)

4. !!!IMPORTANT!!! Add your new configuration to WAN firewall rule, otherwise you wont get any internet through your lan ports and wifi.

Firewall

In the end your new interface should look something like this:

(There is how ever an easy process how to restore your router back to original firmware LINK)

The firmware provided below HAS FIXED the problem of  all lan ports including wan port acting as a dumb switch.

The firmware provided below consists of LuCI, 3G modem support and opkg package manager.

In this article I will guide you through the process of upgrading your router with OpenWRT firmware

Benefits of OpenWRT:
-Newest kernel for your 3G modems
-No more 0,5 Mbs bug limitation on upload

-…

Lets get started, you will need:
– An active internet connection on 3G-6200n router (through WAN connection)
– Edimax 3G-6200n 2.21b firmware (My dropbox) or (EDIMAX POLAND)
– Link to OpenWRT firmware compiled by guenti (http://www.dropbox.com/s/y1radsg2re0fg4u/openwrt-ramips-rt305x-3g-6200n-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin) – This was what i uploaded to router
Link to mtd program (http://www.dropbox.com/s/kqj7jtnkc567b04/mtd)

Actual procedure:

wget http://dl.dropbox.com/s/y1radsg2re0fg4u/openwrt-ramips-rt305x-3g-6200n-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/s/kqj7jtnkc567b04/mtd
chmod a+x mtd
./mtd -r write openwrt-ramips-rt305x-3g-6200n-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin Kernel:RootFS

If everything went smoothly you should be able to acces your router at 192.168.1.1 / admin:root /password: blank

This is the procedure to partly disable onboard led’s. Currently this script only disables wireless and lan lights (Power and USB are still on).

Under Administration-> Scripts-> Init tab  copy and paste this code:

et robowr 0x00 0x18 0x1e0
et robowr 0x00 0x1a 0x1e0
wl -i eth1 leddc 1
wl -i eth2 leddc 1

This was tested on Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-105 K26 USB AIO-64K
